Anahita Daruwalla is an amazing occupational therapist. Her keen clinical eye is complemented by a remarkably engaging personality that makes even the youngest of patients excited to visit her regularly. I knew something was not right with my daughter at an early age. Even with my training as a physician, I could not determine the issue. My daughter visited several occupational therapists and all of them could not identify the problem. One even remarked that “she will never crawl.” 

We were fortunate to visit Mrs. Daruwalla when my daughter was 7 months old. She identified the issue as Sensory Processing Disorder and fine motor delay. Her sharp instinct was corroborated when she completed an extremely thorough evaluation, which cited the most up-to-date research in the field.

While under Mrs. Daruwalla’s care, my daughter looked forward to her visits. No two therapy sessions were the same, and each one was targeted toward the highest priority issues. This resulted in dramatic improvements in several areas of my daughter’s development, including a significant boost in speech.

Early intervention plays a major role with these types of issues. Anahita Daruwalla profoundly changed the trajectory of my daughter’s life. We describe her infant years and “before Anahita” and “after Anahita” In her “before Anahita” stage, my daughter would sit around and barely respond to people and stimulus. “After Anahita” she is an extremely energetic, feisty, and loving child who loves hugs and kisses.

My husband and I were lucky enough to meet Anahita at a Pretend City Annual Smart Start Luncheon. Anahita introduced herself to us after hearing my husband speak about our son. She gave us a few suggestions, and that was all I needed to hear. I could tell just in those few minutes that Anahita truly cares about the kids that she sees and she wants to do her best to help as many as she can.

Our son has been to his fair share of Occupational Therapists. Anahita is not like the other “cookie cutter” OT’s. She develops a plan for each of the kids and she works her hardest to get them to surpass their goals. Ms. Anahita has been such a blessing to our family and, specifically, our son. He loves going to see Ms. Anahita. He thinks of it more as fun, rather than work, and I love that about her and the environment that she has created for all of the kids. It’s been almost two years that my five year old has been with Anahita. She is an amazing occupational therapist. We had to take a break for my son’s surgery and recovery so we missed some time, but Anahita was so flexible with us. I love how passionate she is about her job and her attention to detail. She bonded so well with my son, which is extremely important to get the job done. My son loves her too. She has been so hopeful in pointing out what my son needs, helping to educate me too, and helping to point me in the right direction if she sees another concern or another professional we need to see. We have been through so much with Anahita as to my son’s concerns, progress, diagnoses, etc. she has been such a crucial key part of my son’s life. She has forever helped him and honestly couldn’t live without her. It truly brings me to tears to see all what she has been able to do for my son. We still have some ways to go, but knowing Anahita will be there for us, I feel definitely way better. She also helped in performing an assessment not only at her location, but also at my son’s preschool, and helped provide some opinions as to what he needs in general and also as to what he needs for school (I’m relation to IEP meetings).  She’s been an immense help, and is WAY worth the money.

As a healthcare professional and educator, I tend to be very critical of the care that has been made available to my granddaughter. Her parents and I struggled for over 18 months to find someone that practices Sensory Integration Therapy at the level that Anahita provides. Anahita’s skill, knowledge, intuition and kind nature have been the perfect fit for our family.  She educates us and her unlimited patience provides us with the gift of her experience and knowledge. This has been so reassuring for us as we see our child in need of intervention because of the deficits she exhibits. Anahita is also the first one to point out my granddaughter’s strengths and she revels in our granddaughter, never once just seeing her as a “patient”, but as an adorable, bright and amusing child.

I have parented an adult disabled child for over 40 years and it has kept me in the “disability trenches”. I have worked with many talented specialists, but Anahita is one of the finest I have ever had the privilege to watch work with a child. I have entrusted a piece of my granddaughters’ future success in her hands, and they are the most capable hands. I sleep well at night knowing that she is working her hardest, and doing her best for our granddaughter.

Anahita is truly a one of a kind find! I had been searching for a very long time for someone that could help my son with his sensory issues and help me to know how to help him. The other occupational therapists that I have worked with have never been able to truly understand my son’s needs which is why I went searching for a therapist that specializes in sensory processing disorder and how I found Anahita. From the very first phone call with her, I knew that she was going to be amazing and a godsent! She is a wonderful listener and listened to me for over an hour telling her every detail about my son and all of the concerns I have. She understood everything I was saying and knew exactly what I was talking about and how to help, unlike anyone else I have talked to. She did an extensive evaluation which I thought was very thorough and accurate and we began right away with sessions. Anahita was so amazing with my son and he loves her so much. He felt very comfortable with her right from the start and she has helped him tremendously. She has been the only one that has been able to help and I can’t recommend her highly enough. I am so thankful for all of her guidance and help. As a parent, you know and love your child so very much and just want everyone to understand and appreciate them the way they deserve and Anahita did that– she understood and loved my child for who he is, genuinely, and cared about helping him reach his full potential and helping him cope with the things that can be so difficult for him. Not only has she helped my son but she has helped me– with talks of encouragement and advice and also valuable help with dealing with the school district during the IEP process all on her own time (she even took time to talk to the OT at the school district to try to help her understand my son better and help fight for the services he needs). She also has so many different resources and cool equipment to try out and see what would help each child the most and would let us take home different things to try out which was really helpful.
